Health and Fitness

Table tennis actually has many health and wellness benefits. Individuals who play table tennis regularly can expect improved reflexes and hand-eye coordination while strengthening the muscles of the arms, back, and abdomen.

The quick and frequent movements of the arms required in table tennis improve strength, stamina, and health of the arm muscles. Improved musculature is not limited to the arms, though. Abdominal muscles are strengthened from the constant twisting of the midsection. Also, because one must bend at the waist frequently while playing table tennis, the lower back muscles are strengthened.

It improves hand-eye coordination, is aerobic, uses both the upper and lower body, and causes you to use many different areas of the brain to function.

Playing a friendly game of table tennis for an hour burns about 300 calories. That's equal to a 27-minute power walk on a treadmill or 32 minutes of light gymnastics. Now, which activity sounds like more fun, walking in one direction for half an hour, execute dizzying cartwheels or beating your friend in a table tennis match thus giving you bragging rights?

If you’re a child, adult or senior looking for something fun and extremely healthy for your body and brain, take up table tennis.

Just like other sports, the key is to train properly and practice your skills.
